Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023) - Movie review

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023) is the sequel to
Sony's Into the Spider-Verse (2018)

The movie is directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers & Justin K. Thompson.
Screenplay written by Dave Callaham, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller  and obviously based on Marvel Comics.

The story follows Mile Morales (voiced by Shameik Moore) and his adventures as his universe's Spider-Man. After meeting a new villain and reuniting with Spider-Gwen (voiced by Hailee Steinfeld) , Miles is pulled into a new adventure outside his own universe, meeting new Spider-people in the Spider-verse. He must do what's right and save himself and protect everything he loves from the "Spider-man" canon.

The plot will not be described in detail any further...I'll just review it since this movie is a masterpiece. Each frame is a painting that should be placed in a museum...that museum would be full by the time we've hit the 1 hour mark. The visuals (use of color, different art styles, aesthetics for each of these artstyles,...the list goes on) run the show and majorly support the story (which calls for these amazing visuals) - this is what made Studio Ghibli's Spirited Away beautiful too. If you have problems with the story, you can always find comfort and beauty in the visuals. For example: they help seperate each Spider-man/woman/whatever from eachother...even if they're animated similarly - like Miles and Gwen, The colors used for these characters and their universes set them apart enough that it doesn't bother you...They both fit in each others world.

The only problem I have with Across the Spider-Verse is that i'm finding it hard to place it on Number 1 of my favorite 2023 films...The Super Mario Bros. Movie is on that spot currently...That film while plotwise was not the greatest...the colors, animation, use of nostalgia won me over to name it the greatest 2023 film (and as seen that it is the highest grossing film of 2023 currently)...but Spider-verse is on another level than Mario. Its story is masterfully told - even though it's Part 1 of 2. It's daring with its animation and art. Conclusion: Both Mario and Spider-Verse will have to share the crown and throne in my list of Greatest/Favorite films of 2023...and no one will change my opinion!

Many fans and I are excited for Across the Spider-Verse Part II aka Beyond the Spider-Verse!
(I will not make a satire comic of the Spider-Verse trilogy)

Across the Spider-Verse is still playing in movie theaters world wide (I think?) ! So go to your nearest theater to watch this masterpiece!
